Louisville Chapter ASSP Condolences

It is with an incredibly heavy heart that we communicate the news of the passing of Frank Gradisek, a long-standing and incredibly impactful member of the ASSP Louisville Chapter. Frank passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Monday, March 20, 2023. Frank was a native of Pennsylvania and graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Engineering. He served our country with pride as a Staff Sergeant in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard’s 112th Air Wing. His upward career path through the corporate safety world would take him to multiple companies in multiple states and lead to Phillip Morris in Louisville as their Director of Safety and Security where he retired in 1993. His career had countless great achievements for the advancement of the profession of occupational safety. He was the first President of the Kentucky Safety and Health Network (KSHN), a thirty-five year member of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), and a forty-seven year member of our own ASSP. In honor of Frank’s commitment and care for student members, the Louisville Chapter created the Frank Gradisek Scholarship in 2021 to help one student member of the Louisville Chapter further their safety education and development as a safety professional. Frank was a mentor, a teacher, a leader, a contributor, and a supporter. He was most importantly a friend to all that got to know him and shared his passion for making sure everyone returned home from work safe every night. His spirit could never be replaced and he will be truly missed by all those in the ASSP Louisville Chapter. RIP Frank.

Update on Federal OSHA’s ETS for COVID-19
Unless you’ve been fortunate enough to be hiking the Appalachian Trail, taking a cruise or enjoying some other leisurely activity that gives you the privilege of being away from technology, you’re very likely aware that Federal OSHA released its much anticipated and very controversial Emergency Temporary Standard (“ETS”) on COVID-19. Since releasing the ETS, multiple lawsuits have been filed involving more plaintiffs than one cares to count. On Saturday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit issued an emergency stay on enforcement of the ETS, and we could see more decisions from other Federal courts in the coming days.
